Appearance: Not what I expected. The label suggests that this is a black IPA and it is quite black. Very black; rivaling even some of the darkest porters that I have encountered. It does allow some light through though. The head is mocha colored, thick, and lasting. (Please no “That’s what she said.”
Smell: Fruity and sweet. Strong malt smell for an IPA. There’s also the typical citrus notes of an ale.
Taste: Quite subtle. slightly malty at first with a bitter aftertaste. The hops don’t really carry through in that pleasant way that one would expect from an IPA.
Overall: This was easily on of the strangest beers that I have ever had. It seems to have so many different personalities and I think that may have hurt it. This beer is best described as confusing. 65/100
