Appearance: I don’t want to sound like an idiot, but it’s amber colored; maybe slightly darker. Think of a spider trapped in resin or the cane that Dr. Grant had in the first Jurassic Park movie. The head is light and fades quickly.
Smell: Perhaps I got a bad bottle, but it smells like corked wine.
Taste: Sweet, malty, traces of bread.
Overall: Here in my native Ohio it was nigh impossible to acquire this frothy brew. I had a friend bring me a case almost once a month from Pennsylvania (Usually the Lord Chesterfield Ale though). Since it’s become available in Ohio it’s lost some of the mystique and, I fear, that hype may have enhanced the flavor for me. I think something may have gone wrong with this bottle though. I may have been skunked. I will revisit this beer. Rating is pending.
Up Next: Tell me in the comments dammit.
Up next: Steel Reserve.
Also, get the Yuengling on tap somewhere.
At my usual dive Yuengling is my go to. I had actually had one from draft about two hours before the bottle review. I had it at a friends house and my suspicion is that it wasn’t stored properly.
A good amber is Nugget Nectar by Troegs. Unfortunately it’s a spring seasonal, so you’ll have to wait a bit. But seriously, try it.
